Shrewsbury Station being lit up to honour NHS

Shrewsbury Railway Station is to be lit up three times over a 10-day period this month to honour the amazing ongoing work being carried out by the NHS.

Shropshire Council and Shrewsbury BID are getting together to project the tribute which will provide great opportunities for the town to mark the efforts of NHS staff during the Covid pandemic.

The station will be lit up in blue on May 5, 12 and 14, three important dates which raise awareness and recognise the work of staff in three vital areas of healthcare provision.

Emma Molyneux, of Shrewsbury BID, said: “It’s been a difficult year for everyone but particularly for those working on the frontline. It’s important to recognise the commitment and extraordinary efforts of NHS staff during this period and we have the opportunity to say thank you.

“Lighting up Shrewsbury Railway Station is an appropriate way to do this and we are delighted to partner Shropshire Council in this very special tribute on three occasions over a 10-day period.

“The council is the authority responsible for building lighting projection requests and we have worked with them before on similar projects. Lighting up the railway station in blue will be an amazing way to highlight the work of the NHS.”

Julia Clarke, Director of Corporate Services at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said: “This month sees three very important days recognising the work of certain professions within healthcare. May 5 is International Day of the Midwife, May 12 is International Nurses Day and May 14 is National Operating Department Practitioners Day.

“Lighting up the railway station in blue is a great way of paying tribute to the hard work that these, and all the other professions within the NHS, are continuing to deliver as we come out of the latest lockdown, and certainly the worst wave of the pandemic.”
